General Insurance Information:

When contractors start a construction project they are required to have a contractors insurance.  Some developers even get an umbrella insurance for additional coverage.  In California contractors are required to have builders risk insurance for all construction developments or the city can shut the project down until insurance is provided.

General liability contractors insurance can be purchased through many companies who provide such insurance but they require such information as size of the project, number of units and other aspects of the development.  Companies in California who are looking for general liability insurance or umbrella insurance should contact an insurance broker locally to simplify the insurance process.  Even residential general contractors are required to have liability insurance which protects the contractor for 10 years.

Commercial liability insurance for contractors developing commercial properties is also required and although many of the same requirements are the same other factors will determine if the contractor will be able to get insurance.
